Nora E. Bush, 92, of Urbana, IL, formerly of Morrison, and Fulton, IL, died Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at the Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana.
Nora E. Bush was born on June 25, 1923 in Fulton Township, Whiteside County, IL, to Claus and Elsie (Dykhuizen) Ottens. Her mother died when she was less than one year old, and she was taken in and raised by her uncle and aunt, George and Myrtle Dykhuizen. She attended Morrison schools and graduated from high school in 1941. She then went to Augustana College of Nursing in Chicago, IL, and graduated as a R.N. in 1944. She first worked as a nurse in Detroit, MI, then returned to work at Morrison Community Hospital. She married Edwin J. Bush on July 1, 1949, in Morrison. He died on January 20, 2007. They lived in Champaign, IL, while Ed was a student at the University of Illinois, and Nora worked at Carle Hospital. When Ed graduated they lived for a year in Long Beach, CA, and then returned to Morrison. Again Nora worked at Morrison Hospital. They were members of Ebenezer Reformed Church, where Nora was active in several women’s groups, the choir, and as a Sunday school and Catechism teacher. Ed’s job was transferred, and they moved to Chicago Heights, IL, in 1961. Nora worked as a nurse for the Flossmoor School District until 1972, when they moved to Western Springs, IL. There Nora worked for La Grange Pediatrics until her retirement in 1988. In 1991 they moved to Sun City, AZ, and remained there until 1996, when they returned to Fulton, IL. After Ed died, Nora went to live with her daughter in Urbana. Since 2010, she has been a resident of Champaign County Nursing Home in Urbana. Nora was a sweet and kind-hearted person, very sociable, and she always found something good in everyone. She was active in the churches she attended, enjoyed reading, sewing, some crafts, and music, and loved nursing.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda (Charles) Vaughn of Urbana; three grandsons, Timothy (Mai) Deal presently of Yokosuka, Japan, Andrew Deal of Urbana, and Peter Deal of Bowling Green, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John, Ellis and Stanley Ottens; one sister, Pauline Dorothy.
The family of Nora Bush would like to acknowledge the Heath and Vaughn Funeral Home in Champaign, IL, for Nora’s care.
