New Postmaster: Brandon Hatteberg

Brandon Hatteberg, below, became the Erie, IL, Delivery Supervisor under former Morrison, IL, Postmaster Bill Borum.  On Saturday, June 10, 2017, Hatteberg became Borum’s replacement.  Hatteberg will celebrate his five year anniversary with the United States Postal Service in November.  He lives in Erie, IL, with wife Taylor, a “very good” preschool teacher, and their 2.5-year-old son, Abraham.

He rose rapidly through the ranks.  Hatteberg  began as a Transitional Employee (TE) in Rock Island, IL; was converted to City Carrier Assistant (CCA); transferred to Clinton, IA, as a CCA, in February 2013; in January 2014, became a full-time regular employee, a T6 Carrier, with five different routes.  He held Acting Supervisor positions in the Clinton, IA, and Geneseo, IL, offices and did carry work in both locations.  Two years ago, June 2015, he became the Morrison Supervisor.

Hatteberg summarized his primary duties as Postmaster as “management, paper work, and making people happy.”

Borum stated, “The office now has 26 employees; three [part-time] Rural Carrier Associates (RCA’s) will be hired [this month].  The RCA also covers when a regular Carrier is off or on vacation.  They work every Saturday on an 8.6 hour route.  The route is evaluated not just by the hours [it takes to deliver].   The pay is $17.40 per hour, plus mileage.  There are no benefits until” the person becomes full-time.  Eighteen-year-old citizens with clean criminal and driving records may apply at www.usps.com.

As people shop more online or via television shopping networks, “parcel volumes are going through the roof!  The Amazon truck doubled last week,” he noted, “and it is here every day.  [It is a convenience] to shop online.  We handle UPS/Fed Ex products.”

Autumn Blasdell, Acting Customer Service Supevisor, explained, “We are considered their last mile” of deliveries.

Becoming a Rural Carrier Associate is “a starting point and an opportunity to grow into a full-time position,” concluded Borum.

Brandon Hatteberg exemplifies how the process can work in a short time.
