The River Cities Quilt Guild is holding its 27th Quilt Show on Saturday, September 21, and Sunday, September 22, 2013. It will be held at Emmanuel Reformed Church, 202 E. Morris Street, Morrison, IL. The show hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The show, entitled “Jewels of the Fall”, is at a larger location. That is exciting, as there are 150 entries to date. There will be lots of quilts and quilt-related items on display, including last year’s “Pizza Box Challenge.”
Several wooden barn quilts, so popular for both indoor and outdoor displays, might inspire viewers to start their own quilt on wood.
Janette Dwyer, quilt appraiser, returns for this show. Dwyer has done appraisals throughout the Illinois and Iowa areas, and was recently featured on “Paula Sands Live.” She explained her techniques and the reasons for having appraisals done, while at the Figge Museum in Davenport, IA.
Dwyer will take appointments and might have time to add last-minute appraisals. For an appointment with Janette, please call to reserve your special time. For more information or to schedule, call Connie Barr, at 815-631-5453.
Door prizes will be awarded throughout the show. Entries are included with the $3 admission. All door prizes will be awarded. There will also be giveaways and information from different quilt-related companies.
Demonstrations will be held both days, alternating with an informative bed turning program. The Tips and Tricks demo is so popular, it has been scheduled for both days. Decorations throughout the show will give visitors lots of ideas for upcoming holidays. Visitors are invited to bring their cameras.
A plated luncheon will be served for the first time on both days, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Choose a pulled pork or barbeque beef sandwich; fresh fruit; homemade potato salad; homemade cakes; a beverage.
There will be seven vendors offering different merchandise for your holiday shopping, along with a Quilters’ Boutique, with items handmade by quilt guild members. Some items will be available for purchase. The vendors have been chosen to appeal to a wide range of interests.
Seasonal raffle baskets and our Guild’s Raffle Quilt will awarded. The queen-size quilt, at left, is crafted from batik fabric. Guild members were asked to contribute “fat quarters” of material; this was another successful team effort.
Tickets are $1 each at the door. Winners’ names will be drawn on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m., but winners do not need to be present to win.
This show has interest for the entire family. It is being held the same weekend as Paint the Town, another family event, held just two blocks away. Together, they would make a great day out! Parking for the Quilt Show is at the Emmanuel Reformed Church and Odell Public Library, across the street.
