The calendar, the weather, and catchy advertisements proclaim the holidays are near. Everyone seems to have a shopping list filled with unique needs. Come into The Loft on Main, 112 E. Main Street, Morrison, IL, for ideas and creative gifts this Christmas. Over 350 pieces of exhibited art are waiting to be hung or placed in someone’s home or office.
However, as a volunteer at The Loft on Main, I often hear, “Oh, I love that, but I just don’t know where I’d put it, or if it will look good with what I have.” Retired Morrison School District Art Instructor Ned J. Nesti, Jr. will allay your concerns.
He will present a lively discussion and demonstration, “Selecting, Hanging, and Arranging of Artwork in the Home and Office,” in January 2019. The time is still to be determined. Loft members may attend free; non-members will pay $5 at the door.
This is an opportunity to look around at the variety of art on display. Hear Nesti explain how to select and incorporate interesting art, hang it creatively, and juxtapose art pieces to create a unique look.
If you are not a member of The Loft on Main, you may join that evening or anytime the gallery is open. Costs range from $20 per student to $65 for a family. A single membership is $45, and Seniors are $30 per person.
Being a member has the benefit of such a program as this, lesser rates for gallery rentals, early sign up for classes, and a quarterly newsletter.
Nesti was the Art Instructor at Morrison Junior High for 38 years. He also worked for the National Gallery of Art’s Extension Service for 12 years. Many students benefited from Nesti’s consultant job with Scholastic Magazines‘ Art and Man publication. For 32 years, Nesti developed the art lessons that teacher throughout the United States employed in their classrooms. Morrison students attended summer workshops utilizing the lesson plan laid out by Nesti, and their photos were used in the Art and Man magazine.
