Nellie Pruis-Douma, 97, of Resthave Home, Morrison, IL, died Monday, July 21, 2014, at Morrison Community Hospital in Morrison.
Nellie was born January 20, 1917, in Fenton, IL, to Dick and Grace (Hook) Barsema. She was educated in the Fulton Grade Schools in Fulton. She married Jacob Pruis on August 22, 1935, in Fulton. He died November 14, 1947. She later married Charles Douma on December 30, 1961, in Morrison. He died October 8, 1962. Nellie was employed at General Electric in Morrison for 24.5 years. She was a charter member of Emmanuel Reformed Church in Morrison, a member of the church’s Bible Study Group and Mission Circle, and had served as a Catechism teacher.
Survivors include one daughter, Alva (V. “Doc”) Sikkema of Carroll, IA; three sons, Harry J. (Eileen) Pruis of Morrison; Larry G. (Janet) Pruis of Birch Run, MI; Warren (Marcia) Pruis of Morrison; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace (Elmer “Junior”) Forney of Clinton, IA; one brother, Herman Barsema of Clinton.
She was preceded in death by both husbands, Jacob Pruis and Charles Douma; one daughter, Lois Yarbrough; two grandsons, Jeffrey Pruis and Robert Pruis; six brothers, Cornelius, Marcus, John, Joe, Zepe, and Frank Barsema; four sisters, Gertrude Barsema, Lena Blink, Jennie Barsema, and Alice Redell.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Emmanuel Reformed Church, Morrison, IL

VISITATION: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 25, 2014, at the Morrison Chapel, Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home
