Nahant Marsh Events

FeetLeavesWe regrettably have cancelled our 2016 Autumn Fest event, set for Thursday, October 6, 2016, due to the predicted high probability of thunderstorms on Thursday.  Our water is already high from the flooding.  With rain predicted for all of Wednesday, October 5, and Thursday, the trails for our hayride and most of our hike will be very wet or covered.  We also do not want to have visitors outdoors, when there is such a strong likelihood of lightening.  We offer special thanks to our sponsors Front Street Brewery; U. Brew; Mugz; ManCave BrewNiversity; victorystore.com; Wallace’s Garden Center.

Other Nahant programs this week are listed.  Nahant Marsh Education Center is open Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Breakfast Nature Club:  Friday, October 7, from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m.  Learn the secret life of Iowa’s wildlife during this monthly class at Nahant Marsh.  Each month we will explore the characteristics and adaptations of a group of local flora and fauna.  A continental breakfast with coffee, juice, and tea is included in the fee; bring your own coffee mug or travel container if desired.  Participants are encouraged to join in a “coffee talk” to share stories of wildlife encounters and anything nature-related. Cost is $10 for non-members; $7 for members.  More information and registration can be found online at http://nahantmarsh.org/event/breakfast-nature-club/ or by calling 563-336-3370 or 563-336-3374.

Halloween Hike:  Saturday, October 8, from 10:00 a.m. to noon.  Our Halloween Hike is part of our FOX:  Family Outdoor eXplorations program.  Guests are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes.  We will have cider press demonstrations, a naturalist available to introduce visitors to some of our turtle and snake animal ambassadors, and refreshments.  Cost is free for members; $7 for adult non-members; $5 for child non-members.
