Myron J. Deets (1941 – 2023)

Myron J. Deets, 82, of Sterling, IL, died Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Rock River Hospice & Home, Sterling, IL.

Myron was born on January 22, 1941, in Sterling, to Nolan R. and Jesse Louise (Sivits) Deets. Myron was raised on a farm in Jordan Township and was a former member of East Jordan United Methodist Church He was a 1959 graduate of Sterling High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda L. Wolber, at First Lutheran Church of Jordan, on June 24, 1961. She preceded him in death on January 17, 2020.

Myron became a member of First Lutheran Church of Jordan after marrying Linda, where he served on the church Council and was Council President for several years. Myron farmed with his father for 14 years. While farming, he also was a rural substitute Mail Carrier for seven years. After farming, he worked for Wolohan Lumber for 25 years and Kitzman Lumber for 10 years. He enjoyed helping others with home improvements and contractor tool repairs. Myron was also a former member of the Sterling/Rock Falls Barber Shop Chorus for 15 years. He enjoyed many years of gardening and yard work, as well as golfing and watching the Bears and college football. His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Survivors include his daughters, Trudy (Tom) Landheer of Morrison, IL, Trina O’Brien of Sterling, and Tricia (Tom) Krusenoski of Lockport, IL; four grandchildren, Adam (Tricia) Landheer, Amy (John) Sumption, Meghan O’Brien, and Mitchell O’Brien; three great-grandchildren, Chloe and Nolan Landheer, and Ryleigh Sumption; sisters, Arlene Holmes of Sterling and Susan (Neil) Hains of Sierra Vista, AZ; brother, Alan (Dianne) Deets of Sterling; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Russell Deets. 

Visitation will be 5:00 t0 7:00 p.m., Thursday December 28, 2023,at Schilling Funeral Home & Cremation, Sterling, IL.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday December 29, 2023,at First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Jordan, with Visitation one hour prior, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at the Church.

Burial will take place immediately following at Maple Ridge Cemetery, . 

Memorials have been established to Rock River Hospice & Home and First Lutheran Church of Jordan-ELCA, 20314 Hickory Hills, Road, Sterling, IL.
