Mustangs win Home Opener

The weather finally reacted Spring-like and the Morrison Mustangs handed the Newman Comets a 7-3 loss in the fisrt home game of the 2014 season.

 

 

The Comets crossed the plate first in the second inning off of starter Joey Brackemyer with an RBI single by Hefelfiger.   Morrison retaliated in the fourth when Mason Sitzmore lined a grounder up the middle to score two runs.  Brackemyer had to be relieved by  Bill Lee Greul when he felt his arm stiffening and Greul kept the Comets quiet until the top of the fifth when Newman scored an unearnedrun  with a passsed ball and an error followed a Ely walk and the score was tied at 2.  The bottom of the fifth saw Andy Bird scratch out a lead run with a walk, stolen base, fielders choice put him on third where he would eventually score on a wild pitch to make the score 3-2.

Again, the Comets came back with an RBI single by Edmonson to tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth inning.

The Mustangs took command of the game  with four unearned runs as Sitzmore, Tristin Houzenga, Ben tegeler and Bird all scored with the aid of Newman errors to secure the 7-3 confrence win.

The Mustangs will be home again on thursday, April 3 and Friday, April 4 with games against Erie-Prophetstown and Princeton.
