Four first-inning runs helped Morrison Varsity Baseball to an 8-4 win over Orion on Monday, March 21, 2016.
The Mustangs scored in the first on a two-run triple by Justin Jensen, an RBI single by Joey Brackemyer, and an RBI single by Ryan VanZuiden.
VanZuiden got the win, as he allowed four runs over six innings. He struck out seven, walked two, and surrendered nine hits.
After pushing across one run in the top of the fourth, Orion faced just a 4-1 deficit. An RBI double by Catlett gave Orion life, but Morrison stopped the rally after VanZuiden got Magee to strike out.
Morrison scored three runs of its own in the fourth. The Mustangs scored on a sacrifice fly by Ben Tegeler, a solo home run by Justin Jensen, and an RBI single by Merik Kenady.
Three runs in the top of the fifth helped Orion close its deficit to 7-4. A sacrifice fly by Dhabalt and a two-run triple by Drish sparked Orion’s rally. Finally, VanZuiden got Andrae to strike out to end the threat.
