Mustangs Get Revenge on February 19

The Morrison Mustangs took the home floor Friday night, February 19, 2021, knowing the opposing Riverdale Rams had embarrassed them just three days earlier, by a score of 79-46, in Port Byron, IL.  Ram Brandon Stone opened the first quarter scoring 11 and carried the Rams to a 29-23 halftime lead.

The Mustangs came out fired in the second half and started with a 13-0 run.  They took control of the game and led going into the fourth quarter 40-36.  Deciding to hold the ball at the mid-quarter mark, the game slowed to a 44-44 tie until the 8.1 second mark.  Morrison’s Ashton Smith rebounded a missed Nate Helms shot and put it back in, for a 46-44 lead.

Three timeouts followed in the few remaining seconds.  A turnover and a foul by Riverdale put Smith at the line.  He made one-of-two free throws with nine seconds remaining, to seal the win at 47-44.
