Muddy River Camera Club: February Meeting

The Muddy River Camera Club met…on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at the Lyons District Railroad Depot, 56 25th Avenue North, in Clinton, IA. The meeting began at 7:00 p.m. with introductions of past and new members.  The club introduced the guest speaker…, Doug Jefford from The Camera Corner store, located in Davenport, IA.

As the club [tries] to…further photographic knowledge of club members, a new officer was instated within the club.  Dennis Wright, the new Education Adviser, spoke with the club about plans for the coming months.  He plans are to help teach new photographic techniques within and outside club meetings to all members.  Members held an open dialogue with him to talk about what they want to learn about, such as the post-production of photos.

Jefford talked about storage methods for digital photographs such as flash drives, external hard drives, or the older fashioned CD’s and DVD’s.  Newer technology, such as cloud storage, was also discussed.  Each method of storage was [discussed].  The pros of each method include speed time or amount of data each device could hold. Cons were also debated, like lifetime of each method or how easily each method could be damaged. 

Door prizes were then passed out to the winning club members.

The monthly “Show and Tell” exchange theme was Animals in Snow.  Members showcased photos they took this past month.  Photos from family pets to wildlife where displayed for discussion.  Over 20 photos were on display.

The monthly “Scavenger Hunt” judging contest was held.  This month’s theme was Vintage. Twelve photos were entered into the contest, and a vote was held.  First place was awarded to local photographer Roger Husband of Savanna, IL, shown below.

Second place was a three-way tie between photographers Patty Bird, Rich Jaeger, and Mic Barnes.  Third place also held a tie between Kati Heysinger, Patty Bird, Mic Barnes, and Jerry Banse.  Winning photos are on display on the club’s website and Facebook page.

At 9:00 a.m. on Friday, March 25, the Muddy River Camera Club will hold a public presentation called “Just Look Around You” at the Fulton, IL, Windmill Cultural Center, 111 10h Avenue, Fulton, IL.  This is part of the Wild Winter Wednesdays held across the street from the de Immigrant windmill.  The presentation will display the local landscape and lives of people of Fulton and the surrounding area.  All photos in the display will be taken by photographers of the Muddy River Camera Club.
