Movies Come to Odell Public Library

Tuesday, January 14, 2014, marks the date of the first in a series of movies to be shown at Odell Public Library in the Program Room, 307 S. Madison Street, Morrison, IL.  The Library and the Whiteside Forum together have purchased a movie license.  Since the Program Room has been redone with wooden blinds to keep out the light, films and movies are now a reality.  A new world opens up for the community!

SingRain“Singing in the Rain,” the classic, delightful musical comedy, will be shown on Tuesday, January 14, at 2:00 p.m. in the Program Room.  This wonderful, witty musical, starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, and Donald O’Connor, has been a favorite of movie goers since its premiere in 1952.

The film is a light-hearted depiction of Hollywood in the late 1920’s, as film transitions from the silent movies to “talkies.”  This setting provides for hilarity and song for our three stars as they try to find a place in this new world of “talking” pictures.

To add to the movie pleasure, popcorn and beverages will be provided.  There is no admission charge.  Come and enjoy an afternoon of fun at the movies–right here in your community library.

February films will celebrate Black History month and Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.  Both films begin at 2:00 p.m.

  • Tuesday, February 4, will be the showing of “The Help,” based on the bestselling novel of the same name.
  • Tuesday, February 18, will be the acclaimed movie “Lincoln,” with Oscar winning star Daniel Day Lewis.

Mark your calendars and take advantage of “An Afternoon at the Movies.”
