Nathan Fellows of United Way of Whiteside County awarded both Penny Jacobs, top, of Community State Bank in Morrison, IL, and Darlene Smith of Sterling Federal Bank in Morrison with a $100 gas card, for participating in the “Lend a Helping Hand” program.
Participants who lend a helping hand do so by pledging one hour’s pay per month or 1% of their gross income. These donations help 21 United Way partner agencies provide 37 programs for those in Whiteside County.
In 2012, nearly 3000 people in Morrison received assistance from one of these 37 programs. Assistance included
- children’s lunches
- community service
- counseling
- health and safety
- literacy programs
- outreach
- pharmacy aid
- scholarships
- transportation
- youth programs.
