A significant local visit by Congresswoman Cheri Bustos took place at Morrison Institute of Technology, 701 Portland Avenue, Morrison, on Wednesday, September 7, 2022. At 2:45 p.m., Rep. Bustos presented the college with a check for $1.5 million. The money was secured from Federal Community Project funding “that became available” she stated. Bustos presented financial awards to several worthy local projects.
Rep. Bustos is ranked as the number one Democratic Congressional legislator to bring back money to their Districts. Her total of local funding is $55 million.
“MIT was very top-of-mind for us. It was so important what you were doing, partnering with businesses. [This money] was the third highest amount awarded. You were looking ahead to the future.”
President and Career and Student Services Director Christopher Scott, left, and Dean of Institutional Advancement Craig Gray helped Rep. Bustos hold the “hefty” check.
Above at left, Whiteside County Economic Development Administrative Assistant Sandy Prescott shared a moment with Rep. Bustos in the sun-filled entry. Below, the Representative Morrison Tech and WCED staff toured the Innovation Center. Left-to-right are Bustos, WCED Director Gary Camarano, and President Scott discussing several items manufactured by students. The Leonardo da Vinci self-supporting bridge is a classic, innovative design, while the beautiful table is a modern design.
Each year during the August District Work Period, Congresswoman Bustos travels across Northwest and Central Illinois to visit every corner of Illinois’ 17th Congressional District. On this year’s tour, Bustos made stops in Freeport, Galesburg, Moline, Morrison, Peoria, and Rockford.
