Singers from the community’s churches are rehearsing for the first “Morrison Sings” concert on Sunday, February 19, 2017, beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the United Methodist Church, 200 West Lincolnway, Morrison. There is no admission charge; however, donations will be gladly accepted for the Morrison Food Pantry.
Nearly ten years ago, a group of Morrison choir directors met with an idea to help not only the local food pantry but also the Helping Hands Project by initiating a night of music called “We Sing for Their Supper.” The concert featured a variety of church choirs plus several selections by a massed combined choir. Out of this grew “Morrison Sings.”
Drawing from our nation’s rich musical culture, the massed choir will perform selections both sacred and secular, from grassroot folk songs, to African American spirituals to rousing, heartfelt patriotic music. The Sunday afternoon concert will also feature a director’s vocal quartet singing “He’s Got the World in His Hands”, a majestic organ/piano duet, eight hands on four pianos playing a medley of beloved spirituals and congregational singing.
Come and share in this uplifting experience of music as shared by a community choir. Mark your calendars for Sunday, February 19. Join in supporting the Morrison Food Pantry and Helping Hands Project.
