Editor’s note: City of Morrison, IL, Director of Public Works Gary Tresenriter took the photograph.
Accompanied by gusty winds at noon, on Tuesday, December 3, 2017, City employee Dan Milnes installed a new, State of Illinois flag at the Veterans’ Park Memorial in Grove Hill Cemetery. It flies below the original State banner and is a special edition, to honor the Bicentennial anniversary of Illinois Statehood in 1818.
It was 199 years and two days ago that Statehood was granted. After the American Revolution, Illinois became an organized, incorporated territory of the United States. It remained so from March 1, 1809, until December 3, 1818.
