Recycling is a great way to take care of our environment and preserve our resources. Several years ago the Morrison Chamber of Commerce started a great initiative, by sponsoring a Community Recycle Day. The baton for this project has been passed to the Morrison Lions Club, and we look forward to providing this this much-needed service to the community. Tentative plans are to have it in this fall, with the place and time yet to be to be determined. Watch for further information regarding the details, including what types of recyclables will be accepted.

Main Street, Morrison, IL. New officers for 2018-2019 will be installed on Thursday evening, August 9, at Forest Inn Restaurant and Lounge, 20657 Lincoln Road, Morrison. Last fall, club members installed a new metal roof on the pavilion at French Creek Park and also erected a basketball hoop in the corner of the parking lot. This was a Legacy Project celebrating 100 years of Lions International. At the time the work was being done, it was noted the structure still needed some reinforcement. A work day has been scheduled to complete the needed work; later paint will be applied to the structure.
Recently, a Morrison resident donated to the club Vision Machines that had belonged to a relative. Morrison Lions Club previously placed low vision machines at Odell Public Library and nursing homes. When checking at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton, IL, the club was advised they had no machines. They were very happy to receive this much-needed aid.
Keith Hamstra, left, a member of the Scholarship Committee, introduced Dannica Connelly and her parents, Wendy and Scott Connelly. Dannica is one of our scholarship winners. The essay of the other winner, Linzie Severson, was read by Hamstra. Linzie was unable to be present, due to summer class scheduling.
Aaron Johnson, left, introduced Tom McEleney at the Tuesday, June 5, Program Meeting. He told of improvements made to the Showboat in the past year. This included inside and outside lighting, and new windows and flooring. He also presented the schedule for the summer shows. There are two summer camps for children and two Theater for Young Audiences scheduled.
Regular scheduled meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month, September through June, at noon at Happy Joe’s. We invite anyone interested in knowing more of what Lions do to come to any of our meetings. You can also visit our club website at www.e-clubhouse.org/sites/morrisonil.
