Plans were finalized for the observance of the 75 year anniversary of the club’s charter. The actual charter date for the club was September 29, 1938. Members, guests, and invited dignitaries will gather for dinner at the Forest Inn on Tuesday evening, October 1, 2013. The evening will include installation of officers for 2013-2014, awarding Melvin Jones awards, and presentation of chevrons to members celebrating number of years in the club.
At our business meeting held on Tuesday, September 17, Jim Blakemore presented books to all the members covering the history of the club. It is quite apparent in reviewing this book that our club has lived up to the Lions’ motto of “We Serve.” Besides the history of the club, the book includes past-to-present club officers, past award winners, and a listing of all members since the club’s inception in 1938. A listing of the many community projects was also included.
The Morrison Lions members will be participating in the upcoming Candy Days on Friday, October 11, and Saturday, October 12. Approval was given for eyeglass assistance to one Morrison resident. The annual donation to the local Helping Hand organization was also approved. Each year the club donates back to Community General Hospital Foundation for their Eyeglasses for Kids program. This past year sixteen Morrison area children received assistance from the foundation. A donation of $1600 was approved to the Foundation for this program.
Tracy Muur was in charge of the program for our first meeting of the new year held on September 3. Club members were aware that she had experienced skydiving. Tracy showed the DVD of that experience with members watching in awe. Afterwards there were many questions about her experience. She noted this had been on her bucket list of things she wanted to do. It definitely was an interesting program!
Due to our club celebrating our charter anniversary on Tuesday evening, October 1, there will be no noon meeting. The next meeting will be our business meeting to be held on Tuesday, October 15, at noon at Happy Joe’s, 109 W. Main Street, Morrison, IL. We cordially invite anyone interested to attend any of our meetings. You may also learn more about our club by visiting www.e-clubhouse.org/sites/morrisonil.
