Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Morrison Lions Club members have canceled the Third Annual Recycle Day, originally scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2020. Discussion among committee members, checking with the vendors who have participated with Lions in the past, along with the recent rise in COVID-19 cases [led to the decision that,] for everyone’s safety, the day should be postponed.
Watch next spring for new information. At the present time we plan to hold Recycle Day on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at the Whiteside County Fairgrounds, 201 W. Winfield Street, Morrison, IL. Watch for additional information as to hours and the recyclable items that can be accepted. This new date ties in closely with Earth Day, which [will be] April 22. We all hope that [by] this new date, the pandemic hopefully will be over, or at least less stringent.
This new date gives Morrison residents more time to find more things to discard and also recognize Earth Day.
Morrison Lions Club continues to keep the motto “We Serve.” During this time, we presented a check to Morrison Friends Food Pantry. Volunteers helped the Morrison City workers place and remove flags within the City limits along Route 30 and Route 78. Eyeglass assistance has been available.
Our first meeting of the 2020-2021 year was at noon on Tuesday, September 1, 2020. In order to keep social distance among attendees, the meeting was held at the Lions Club Pavilion located at the Sports Complex, 15201 Bishop Road, on the east edge of Morrison, IL, on the north side of Route 30.
All are welcome to attend any of our meetings held on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at noon. Meetings are normally held at Happy Joe’s Pizza. Due to spacing and group size, changes were made. Watch for information for future meeting locations.
