Stephanie Vavra, Recording Secretary of the Board of Trustees, holds a check and letter intended for the Prophetstown, IL, Historical Society.

She proposed sending a donation, card, or offer of help at the local group’s board meeting on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, the day after a fire destroyed the building and some contents of the Historical Museum in the nearby town.

Treasurer Carole Patton brought Vavra a check Friday, July 19, and the condolence letter was mailed.

Vavra wrote, “Please know how much we sympathize with your loss of the Prophetstown Historical Museum.  I remember the efforts to begin it and acquire Asa Crook’s house.  That makes me confident that you will recreate an appealing museum in the future….Morrison Historical Society hopes this donation will aid your efforts.”

Vavra lived in Prophetstown for 25 years and taught there for 30.5.
