As we enter the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons, we have just seen the heart, and reason for the seasons, by the actions of some younger members of this community.
We especially want to express our gratitude, amazement, and admiration for the young people of our school district. We tend to hear more about the negative than the positive of our youth. This week we had our faith in local young people restored, by the actions of several groups who held food drives for us. Cottonwood 4-H Club donated 96 pounds of product. Southside Elementary School “Kindness Club” donated 252 pounds of food items; took a tour of our building; got to see volunteers in action.
We were in the process of breaking a record Thursday, November 16, 2023, for one-day distribution at our new facility, after setting one last week. Four-H Leader Chris Krum indicated that some of the members wanted to volunteer to help at the pantry. A youth group at another school is preparing to hold a drive for us. Several Church youth groups are, also. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to the young people, and to the teachers and counselors who mentor them. You truly are shaping our community’s future by your actions.
Kunes Country Auto Group Morrison car dealership delivered three skids of boxed food items, to be given out through the Pantry on Monday, November 13.
“The employees were Joe Bielema, Kaedon Campos, Hector Ruiz, and Jim Thicksten. What a great bunch of guys!”
This is the second year they have donated food to MCFP. They order the food items from River Bend Food Bank, who delivers them to car dealerships; employees then make up individual sacks for distribution. The photo shows an assembly line of Kunes employees packing family Thanksgiving boxes. Please thank them for their support, because it makes a big difference! Every dealership participated in this event, donating to their area’s Food Pantries.
We still have some raffle tickets for the Knight DISC Black Powder Rifles ($5 each or four for $20.) The drawing will be held on Saturday, December 2, at 7:00 p.m., at Mahaffey’s on Main, 121 E. Main Street, during the Morrison Christmas Walk.
As you wind down your year, please remember MCFP. Mail any donations you are able to give to Morrison Charitable Food Pantry NFP, P.O. Box 324, Morrison, IL, 61270. All donations are needed and appreciated. We couldn’t do this without your support.
