The “Caring for Our Community” holiday event is sponsored by the Morrison Fire Department. However, this is a community-wide event that enables Morrison youth from birth through high school to delight in Christmas.
Donations of unwrapped new toys, games, etc., or cash to purchase them, may be brought to the MFD drive-through, Toy Drop on Saturday, December 6, 2014, between 10:00 a.m. and noon. The location is 206 W. Main Street, Morrison, IL.
Cash drop-off locations include area gas stations within the City and drive-through restaurants:
- DQ Grill and Chill, 200 N. Sawyer Road
- Hardee’s, 200 N. Base Street
- McDonald’s, 604 E. Lincolnway.
Firefighters will participate in the Chamber of Commerce Christmas Walk on the same evening. Meet the parade Grand Marshal, Orville Goodenough, and his beloved Clara, as you enjoy cocoa, coffee, cookies, and doughnuts.
On Monday, December 8 and 15, the squad will hold a cleaning event from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Both front doors will be unlocked, so those who want to drop off Christmas gifts for children may do so.
The family “wrapping party” is Tuesday, December 16, at the station. Firefighters and helpful “elves” will handle the sorting and wrapping, prior to their night delivery to Morrison children.
It takes a long–but gratifying–evening to transport bags of gifts via MFD equipment to homes across the area. The ETD is set for Thursday, December 18. Friday, December 19, will serve as an additional delivery if needed.
