Morrison Community Recycling Day June 18

Morrison Chamber of Commerce and its sponsors offer an opportunity to declutter your living space, with the 6th annual Community Recycling Day.  Rain or shine, the event is form 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at a new location:  Morrison Junior High, 300 Academic Drive, Morrison, IL.  Enter only from IL Route 78 onto Academic Drive.

The event is sponsored by the Morrison Chamber of Commerce, Farmers National Bank, First Presbyterian Church, Morrison Auto Supply/CARQUEST, Morrison American Legion, Morrison Boy Scouts, Morrison Christian Reformed Church, Morrison Lions Club, Morrison Police Department, Roggy’s Scrap Metal, and Schuler Motors, Inc.

“Representatives from several different Chamber partners will be available to accept a variety of items,” said Scott Stocker, Morrison Chamber of Commerce Board President. “This event is a convenient and safe way to clean up our community and our environment.”

Items that will be collected for recycling include:
•    Cell Phones/Accessories
•    American Flags
•    Eyeglasses/Hearing Aids/Keys (benefits hearing and vision programs of the Lions of Illinois Foundation)
•    Aluminum Cans (benefits Morrison Boy Scouts)
•    Ink/Toner Cartridges (benefits MCUSD #6)
•    Plastic Grocery Bags (must be clean)
•    Paper Products (including catalogs, paperboard, corrugated boxes, magazines, hard/soft cover books, junk mail, newspapers, shredded paper, telephone books and encyclopedias. Items should be bundled by type. Benefits Self-Help Enterprises.)
•    Document Shredding (Cintas Mobile truck will provide on-site shredding for bank statements, paystubs, bills, tax documents, medical records, etc.)
•    Vehicle Batteries (including 6, 12, and 24 volt lead acid batteries from vehicles, motorcycles, boats, RVs and heavy equipment)
•    Ammunition
•    Medications (including old prescriptions, over the counter medicines, vitamins, and pet medications. Accepted with or without a label or container. No needles or syringes.)
•    Scrap Metal/Household Appliances (including vacuum cleaners, microwaves, power and lawn tools, refrigerators, washers, dryers, ovens, dehumidifiers, freezers, propane tanks and aerosol cans)
