Morrison Community Recycle Day September 8

CleanUpTownMorrison Community Recycle Day is back!  The Morrison Lions Club will sponsor the event on Saturday, September 8, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Morrison’s Water Works Park, off Winfield Street, just west of the Whiteside County Fairgrounds.

This is a great opportunity for households to clean out items that can be recycled, to do your part to keep Morrison beautiful and reduce the tremendous volume of trash going to the landfill.  Most items will be accepted for free, except as noted below.

Large size TV’s and computer monitors will be $25 each, and small size TV’s and computer monitors will be $15 each.  There is a limit of five TV’s and/or monitors per household.  All sizes of microwaves will be accepted for a cost of $15 each.  Size determination will be at our discretion.  Cash only will be accepted.

Other items to be accepted for free include:

  • all electronics including computer CPU’s
  • laptops
  • fax machines
  • telephones
  • calculators, cameras
  • camcorders
  • CD and DVD players
  • VCR’s,
  • keyboards
  • projectors
  • printers/scanners
  • shredders
  • modems.

We will also accept used/worn American flags, eyeglasses, hearing aids, old keys, decorative string lights, cell phones, and aluminum cans.  Printer ink and toner cartridges will be accepted but must be wrapped in a bag.

The Morrison Police will be present to collect ammunition and old prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and pet medications.  Note:  Submit all medications in a clear, plastic bag.  No needles, syringes, or liquids will be accepted.

Bring your paper products including catalogs, corrugated boxes, magazines, hard and soft cover books, newspapers, telephone books, and encyclopedias, etc.  Please have the items separated by type.  No shredding will be available.

If you have scrap metal and household appliances including vacuum cleaners, power and lawn tools, refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves, ovens, dehumidifiers, freezers, aerosol cans, cords, etc., these will be accepted for free as well.  Roggy’s Scrap Metal Hauling will also offer to arrange pickup of large items, at another time, by calling Jeff at 815-590-0446 or by e-mailing him at 97gmcs@gmail.com.

We will also accept 6, 12, and 24 volt lead acid batteries from vehicles, mowers, motorcycles, boats, RV’s and heavy equipment.  However we cannot accept household size batteries.

Used motor oil and antifreeze can be delivered to Schuler Motors, Inc., 727 W.Lincolnway, Morrison, IL, during Recycle Day hours.

We are unable to accept hazardous waste, tires, propane tanks, plastic items, documents to be shredded, smoke detectors, and light bulbs.  We reserve the right to refuse any item.
