Morrison Community Hospital Expansion Showcased

Posted by

CEO Pam Pfister presented plans for the Morrison Community Hospital expansion project, on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, to an audience of curious community members.  She displayed photos of the original building at 303 N. Jackson Street, Morrison, IL, that was built in 1934.  She then showed some additions completed in 1954 and finally the current structure that was updated in 1974.

Pfister provided an historical snapshot of services that have been added over the past years under her leadership.  These include Primary Care, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Podiatry, Rheumatology, Urology, Neurology, Surgery, and Behavioral Health.  The hospital has also added  MRI and Ultrasound Technology to the Radiology Department.  All of these physicians have provided quality care to our patients, thus allowing them the convenience of receiving care close to home.

The expansion project includes five new Emergency bays; one will be a trauma bay.  We are also adding a Canopy to allow our ambulance to transition patients safely and securely.  In addition we will add a new Operating Room, allowing the hospital to expand its operating room services.  The new, southeast addition will add eight Private Medical Surgical Rooms.

“To say we are excited is an understatement!  This project not only brings enhancement to the services we currently provide.  It also sets up the hospital for future expansion and provides a significant return on investment to the community,” stated Pam Pfister.

The first floor renovation will include a relocation of the Laboratory Department to the front of the hospital, allowing patients more convenient access.  The Therapy Department also will move to the first floor, offering all of outpatient care services on one floor.

Ground breaking for this nearly $18,000,000 expansion will begin with a new parking lot for staff, immediately to the west of the current hospital, in August 2018.  This change will increase parking for patients and visitors, too.  Once the parking and site work have been secured, building construction will begin on the aforementioned facilities.  The construction has an estimated completion date of early/mid-2020.

The entire cost of the project is being funded by USDA low interest loans.
