The Illinois Emergency Management Agency, along with the Radiation Injury Treatment Network, conducted an emergency drill at Morrison Community Hospital, 303 N. Jackson Street, Morrison, IL, on Wednesday, August 24, 2016.
The scenario was a vehicle accident, with a truck transporting hazardous materials colliding with a car carrying two passengers. All passengers were transported to the MCH Emergency Room. The facility was quarantined and staff were protected, to prevent exposure to any contaminants.
Staff from the IEMA and RITN were quick to comment on how well-prepared our employees were to handle such an event. They said that everyone performed excellently and was impressed by their performance.
One man specifically singled out Registered Nurses Michelle Barrett, Kim Gentry, and Heather Johnson on their great communication, enthusiasm, and adeptness at performing during the exercise.
He also acknowledged Radiology Tech Lori Stage, above right, for her performance. She is shown using a radiation detector to analyze exposure to Barrett. Specifically, Stage performed better than most Nuclear Medicine Techs who are specifically trained to perform radiation surveys.
EMT’s Joe Bonnell and Lisa Schaver ably assisted. Accident victims Rachel Kramoski, Shannon Rubright, and Hayley Welding did a great job performing their roles..
Amy Dodge also did perfect work at the switchboard in responding to the Radiation Area Monitor being activated.
The official felt that everyone treated the experience like a real event, and he was very pleased.
