First Presbyterian Church continues to offer Free Community Meals. All are welcome! The remaining dates in 2014 are Thursdays, October 30, November 13 and December 11, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. A Thanksgiving meal will be served on Sunday, November 23, at 11:15 a.m. In 2015, First Presbyterian is extending the opportunity to host meals to other churches, organizations and businesses. If your group would like to prepare, serve and clean up a meal for 70-90 people, Pastor Mike would love to teach you how. It’s easy and very rewarding. v  Morrison Community Day Care and Preschool Trick-or-Treating will take place in downtown Morrison, on Friday, October 31, 2014, (weather permitting). The kids are very excited to visit businesses. If you would be willing to hand out a small piece of candy or other treat to the kids outside your entrance from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m., please contact Michele Van Buren, Director, at 815-772-3707. The kids have lots of fun and the day care appreciates your participation!

v  Ashford University students will present “All in the Timing,” a group of six one-act plays written by David Ives, on Friday, October 31, 2014 and Saturday, November 1. The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. in Ashford’s recently renovated Mullany Theater. Admission is just $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students.

v  Pleasant View Rehabilitation & Health Care Center will host a number of events in the next few weeks: Trick-or-Treating on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.; a $5 Chili Lunch to raise funds for St. Jude’s on Wednesday, November 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., (delivery available); a Cake Walk on Tuesday, November 25, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. (donations of baked goods appreciated!); and Saturday Matinees, the second Saturday of each month, where family-friendly movies will be shown with free popcorn and soda for all. v  The Bike Barn, at 13524 Black Road, Morrison, will host the OMA National Off-Road Motorcycle & ATV Racing Series on November 1st and 2nd, 2014. Call 815-778-3641 for information.

v  Election Day is November 4. Don’t forget to vote. On the ballot will be two referenda asking for approval of a 1% sales tax increase to support infrastructure repairs in the city (road repairs have been identified as the highest priority) and a 1% county-wide sales tax to support school infrastructure improvements. The Chamber Board of Directors voted to support both measures because a strong school system and safe roads are crucial for Morrison’s health as a community and its growth in the future. v  The Friends of the Parks Foundation will host “Trivia for the Trail-The Trek Continues” on Saturday, November 8, 2014, beginning at 6:00 p.m., at The Oak Room at Prairie Ridge Golf Course. The cost is $10 per player, with 8 people maximum per team. Tacos will be available for purchase, as well as snacks and beverages. Pre-register your team and players’ names by e-mailing friendsoftheparkmorrison@gmail.com by November 4 for a free trivia answer. Proceeds will benefit the Morrison-Rockwood Recreational Trail and the Friends of the Parks Foundation.
