The beauty and serenity of Mogasheen Resort, on the edge of Lake Namakagon, is captured twice in this photograph.  The property recently was honored by Scott Walker, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, with congratulations for the 50 year anniversary of “offering a quality family vacation to all of their guests.”

“Whereas, tourism remains the top economic driver of Bayfield County, and the region needs healthy, successful resorts to carry on this storied tradition…” he proclaimed “Thursday, October 11, 2012, as Mogasheen Resort Day throughout the State of Wisconsin.”

Governor Walker congratulated the Sykes family and current operators, Patsy (Sykes) and Henry Rieckhoff, on the golden anniversary and commended the observance to all Wisconsin citizens.

Charla (Michael) Olson, owner of Hair Headquarters, 200 N. Madison Street, Morrison, is a daughter of the earlier resort owners, Ruth and Bill Sykes.  They purchased the property in 1962 as a summer resort, expanding it to become a year-round family resort in 1973.

“The Sykes family has made various renovations and improvements to the resort, including an indoor swimming pool, office, and tennis courts, which has made the resort appealing to generations of families for five decades,” wrote Governor Walker.

Mogasheen Resort continues as a favorite spot for Sykes family and friends to gather throughout the year.  The photograph illustrates why.  The adult children of Ruth and Bill Sykes share ownership of the resort:

  • Charla (Sykes) Olson
  • Patsy (Sykes) Rieckhoff
  • Phillip Sykes
  • Lola Sykes, widow of the late Ron Sykes
  • Terry Sykes.
