Middle School’s ability to compete in Track and Field throughout the State of Illinois originated in 1932, when the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) held competition in Wenona, IL. A two-class system for boys existed until 1984, when the competition was divided according to age and height factors. The Girls Track program was added in 1972. The first Girls’ finals were offered in 1974. In 1985 all IESA competition was reorganized into four classes, by school size and grade levels. It was split again in 2021 into the current classes: 7-1A, 7-2A, 7-3A, 7-4A; 8-1A, 8-2A, 8-3A, and 8-4A.
On Saturday, May 15, 2021, Morrison Junior High School 7th and 8th grade Track and Field teams traveled to Manlius, IL, (Bureau Valley High School.) They participated in the 2021 3A version of the IESA Sectional competition, with the understanding that this was the end of the road for the 2021 season. That is, because the COVID-19 pandemic was causing the cancellation of the State finals for 2021.
