On Friday, April 25, 2014, Morrison Institute of Technology hosted the 7th grade class from Morrison Junior High School for an Applied Science and Technology Day.  Approximately 75 students participated in five hands-on activities, focused on the principles of engineering.

One activity included working in groups to build the tallest structure using limited building resources.

Students also used a solid modeling package to design a 3D model of a whistle, then used a 3D printer to create a prototype of the
whistle.

They created a trial mix of concrete, then tested the concrete for workability and compression strength.

With bridge design software, students created a bridge and tested the bridge under typical loads.

Finally, they walked through a hands-on activity of a commonly used manufacturing process –injection molding.  This included creating finished screwdrivers using an injection molding machine.
