Residents are encouraged to donate blood during a blood drive on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Morrison Institute of Technology, 701 Portland Avenve, Morrison, IL. Blood will be collected from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., in the Parkinson Auditorium in the Administration Building.
Morrison Tech’s Student Government organization is partnering with American Red Cross and Migrant Students Foundation, as part of the “National Cesar Chavez Blood Drive Challenge.” This National event began in 2009 to honor the legacy of Cesar Chavez. College students are provided with an opportunity to promote health education, science careers, and civic engagement and to help save lives in their community.
During the blood drive on March 22, donors can give in two different ways. Blood, the most common type of donation. During the donation, approximately a pint of “whole blood” is given. This usually takes about an hour.
A second type of donation is Power Red. A Power Red donation collects the red cells but returns most of the plasma and platelets to the donor. These donors must meet specific eligibility requirements, including beeing in the Type A Negative, Type B Negative, or Type O blood group. This procedure takes about 90 minutes total.
To make an appointment, donors can call 815-535-8408 or go to http://rdcrss.org/2lNb1HH. Walk-ins are also welcome.
