Mission Trip Soup Supper/Dessert Auction February 6

Ground0 Oct302012This photo of Ground Zero at the World Trade Center was taken by Spencer Platt on Monday, October 29, 2012.  It demonstrates the flooding caused to New York City, NY.  Local volunteers became part of the hurricane recovery mission.  They are fundraising for a new mission trip in June 2014.

Spring Valley Church, 10960 Spring Valley Road, Fulton, IL, will host a Soup Supper and Dessert Auction, on Saturday, February 6, 2016.  Multiple soup choices and all the fixings for a delicious meal will be served from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Immediately following, Marc Gravert will auction 20 amazing desserts.

All proceeds will support our “Disaster Response Mission Team,” who will work with Samaritan’s Purse this summer. 

Shown below is the June 2014 team, after their arrival in New York City.  Their task was to assist continuing recovery efforts, after Hurricane “Superstorm Sandy” devastated the city on Momday, October 29, 2012.  Female members included, left-to-right, Deb VanKampen, Donna Boonstra, Shari Akker, Betty Snyder, Julie Isenhart, Vicky Heiser, Julie Beidler, Angie Piercy, and Joyce Barsema.  Male participants were Joe Bielema, Kendall Boonstra, Gerry Akker, Stan Stuart, and Jim Barsema.

Samaritan’s Purse is an evangelical Christian, humanitarian organization that provides aid to people in physical need, as a key p.art of Christian missionary work.  The organization’s President is Franklin Graham, son of Christian evangelist Billy Graham.  The name of the organization is based on the New Testament Parable of the Good Samaritan.  Jesus used a parable to teach people one form of the Golden Rule:  “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Samaritan’s Purse works in more than 100 countries around the world.  International headquarters are in Boone, NC.

Support crisis relief and development in the United States, while enjoying a great meal and lots of fun!
