Miller Program Reviews Ronald Reagan’s Years in Dixon

JerrySchnakeOn Monday, October 8, 2018, at 6:00 p.m., Jerry Schnake will present a program titled “Reagan:  Dixon’s Lifeguard.”  This presentation will take an in-depth look at Ronald Reagan’s lifeguarding summer job, held at Lowell Park in Dixon, IL, from 1926-1931.  The Volunteer Millers of de Immigrant windmill will host “Reagan:  Dixon’s Lifeguard” at the Windmill Cultural Center, 111 Tenth Avenue, in downtown Fulton, IL, across from the authentic Dutch windmill.

Schnake is a lifetime resident of the Dixon area.  He worked for Motorola Solutions for 37 years. where he was a Sr. Field Service Tech and covered Chicago, and downstate, Illinois.  He is currently a volunteer for both the Northwest Territory Historic Center (NRHC) and the Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home Foundation.

NTHC is a Smithsonian affiliated museum, including the Black Hawk War and Early Farming exhibits.  Schnake is a tour guide for both the Black Hawk War exhibit and the Boyhood Home of Ronald Reagan.

He is a lifelong student of local history and specializes in bringing it back to life in his presentations.

The program is free and open to the public.  Light refreshments will be served following the program.  The facility is accessible to persons with disabilities.  These programs are supported by a grant from the D. S. Flikkema Foundation.
