Ronald and Ginny Mickley of Morrison, IL, crafted an idea for a grant proposal to benefit Morrison High School athletes. She suggested helmet protection for the football team. He submitted a grant request to the America’s Farmers Grow Communities program, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund. During a random drawing, as the sole Whiteside County winner, “Team Mickley” secured an award of $2500 for the local football program.
Ron Mickley presented a check to School District representatives, at 9:30 a.m., on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, on the north practice field. Shown left-to-right are Superintendent Scott Vance; Activities Director Gregg Dolan; Mickley; Principal Kay Harwood. Coach Cory Bielema was unable to attend.
Vance and Harwood hold “Guardian Caps,” which were ordered for every player to wear during practice, noted Dolan. “They lessen impact and concussions. The camouflage pattern was an error.” Mickley’s grant money also will cover the cost of #65, the T-man sled.
From August 1 through November 30, eligible farmers in eligible counties can enroll for a chance to win a $2500 donation for their favorite local nonprofit. In December one winning farmer, from each eligible county, is randomly selected. Winners are announced in January, and their nonprofits are contacted.
Each year more than $3 million is donated to over 1300 organizations across America. America’s Farmers Grow Communities is sponsored by the Monsanto Fund.
“The Monsanto Fund, the philanthropic arm of the Monsanto Company, is a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening farm communities and the communities where Monsanto employees live and work.”
