Michael W. Hemmer has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Advantage One Credit Union (AOCU), the full-service Credit Union located at 204 N. Jackson Street, in Morrison, IL. Hemmer comes to the position with more than 30 years of management, marketing, project management, and technology experience. His tenure with AOCU began in 2021, as a member of the Board of Directors, and then as the organization’s Loan Officer.
On Saturday, October 8, 2022, he told the Editor that, when his Board term expired at the end of February 2022, he applied and interviewed for the President position and was accepted. On Tuesday, March 1, he also became the Loan officer.
“Morrison General Electric Employees Federal Credit Union” was organized June 2, 1960. Membership was limited to GE Morrison employee families, even though the financial institution was neither a function of, nor sponsorship of, the General Electric Company. The name changed its charter to a Community Charter (not limited to GE employees any longer) and amended the name to AdvantaGE one Credit Union. The capital letters GE were an homage to the founding efforts of GE employees.
The original slogan/vision was, “People Helping People.” That goal has not changed, but the current slogan is, “Our Commitment, Your Advantage.”
Hemmer’s leadership background includes his current role as City Clerk of Morrison. For more than ten years he has been a Consultant for international consumer and pharmaceutical companies. Prior to that, he was the owner of InterMark, where he was a Marketing and Business Consultant assisting American, Hungarian, and German companies enter foreign markets. Hemmer was also Project Manager for Forum Amerika based in Germany, and held various management positions, for more than 15 years, at the German American Chamber of Commerce. He began his career at CRC Information Systems, where he served as Systems Manager and Project Director.
He received his Bachelor’s degree from DePaul University, Chicago, IL, and took post-graduate education programs in the U. S. and Germany. A resident of Morrison, he is a member and volunteer of The Loft on Main.
Commenting on his new position as President, Hemmer said that this is a unique and exciting opportunity to lead this well-established and respected Credit Union. “Advantage One has a talented team….Together we will continue to serve members with a full suite of financial products, while providing outstanding customer service,” he said.
