Editor’s note: On behalf of “the rest of the World,” Claudia Sheinbaum, President of the United Mexican States, wrote this letter to President Donald Trump and special government employee Elon Musk.
“So, they [Legislators] voted to build a wall….Well, my dear Americans, even if you don’t understand much about geography, since for you, America is your Country and not a Continent, it is important that before you lay the first bricks, you know what you are leaving outside this wall.
There are seven billion people outside. But, since this [data] about people doesn’t sound like much to you, we will call [them] consumers.
There are seven billion consumers willing to replace the iPhone with the Samsung or Huawei smartphone in less than 42 hours. They can also replace Levis with Zara or Massimo Duti.
Quietly, in less than six months, we can stop buying Ford or Chevrolet vehicles and replace them with a Toyota, KIA, Mazda, Honda, Hyundai, Volvo, Subaru, Renault, or BMW, which technically far surpass the cars you produce.
These seven billion consumers can also stop subscribing to Direct TV. We wouldn’t like it, but we can stop watching Hollywood movies and start watching more Latin American or European productions. [They] have superior quality, messages, cinematographic techniques, and content.
Although it [might] seem incredible to you, we can stop going to Disney and go to Xcaret Park in Cancun, Mexico, Canada, or Europe. There are other excellent destinations in South America, the East, and Europe.
Believe it or not, in Mexico there even are better hamburgers than McDonald’s and with better nutritional content.
Has anyone seen pyramids in the United States? In Egypt, Mexico, Peru, Guatemala, Sudan, and other countries there are pyramids with incredible cultures. Look for where the wonders of the ancient and modern world are…. None are in the United States….What a shame for Trump; [possibly] he would have bought and resold it!
We know that Adidas and Nike exist, [but] we can…consume [more] Mexican Panam tennis shoes.
We know much more, than you think we know. For example, if these seven billion consumers do not buy [U. S. made] products, there will be unemployment. The economy (inside the racist wall) [might] collapse to the point that they will beg us to tear down the fateful wall.
No queríamos, pero, [We did not want to, but] you wanted a wall. You will get a wall.
Sincerely,
The Rest of the World
