Sunday, January 12, 2020, will be the first rehearsal for the biannual performance of Handel’s “Messiah,” which is sponsored by the Morrison Ministers Council. The performance will be on Palm Sunday, April 5, at 7:00 p.m. Anyone who is unable to attend the first rehearsal or who has any questions may call Director Kathy Janicek at 815-772-2874. All interested singers are encouraged to join this choir.
Rehearsals will be held on Sunday afternoons from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 601 N. Jackson Street, in Morrison, IL. Singers are asked to attend at least half the rehearsals. Those who own the G.Schirmer edition of “Messiah” should bring their music with them. Scores can be purchased or borrowed.
The Morrison Ecumenical Chorus will present the Lent and Easter portions, which includes the stirring “Hallelujah Chorus.”
“Messiah” was first performed in Morrison 63 years ago, in 1956, under the direction of Louise Mathew. Since then, these concerts have become a strong part of Morrison’s musical and religious traditions. The performance will be conducted by Kathy Janicek, Director at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Morrison. Accompanist will be Christine Holmer of Clinton, IA.
