Come celebrate 150 years of Thomson, IL, with memories of one of its most popular historical events–Melon Days. There will be free watermelon for all!
The Thomson Sesquicentennial Committee is pleased to announce that “Memories of Melon Days” will be held Saturday, September 5, 2015, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., at York Community Church, Route 84, Thomson. This community afternoon includes exhibits and recollections of the by-gone Thomson celebration of Melon Days.
Free watermelon, courtesy of Bim and Deb McGinnis, will be provided in the churchyard, while exhibits and talks about Melon Days will be given in the church annex.
The public is invited to share memories and photos. Old pictures, badges, programs, etc. are being solicited. They should be either brought to the church on the 5th or brought to Lawrence Bruckner, 1110 Locust, Thomson, IL 61285 prior to the date.
All prior Thomson Melon Days Presidents and Board members are urged to come and share their memories. Queens, Grand Marshals, Miss and Master Melon are asked to attend and bring their tiaras, etc.
Thomson residents are encouraged to wear their Melon Days badges.
The Heirloom Market will be holding a Harvest Festival across the street. There will be something for everyone on Saturday, September 5.
