Mike was born May 3, 1952, in Morrison, to Alfred and Phyllis (Rick) Olson. He was a 1971 graduate of Morrison High School. Mike married Charla Sykes on April 28, 1972, in Morrison. He first worked for S&A Construction in Morrison, specializing in drywall, and was affectionately dubbed “the super gooper.” He then went to work for Gate City Steel in Sterling and later worked at Waste Management for 20 years until retiring. Mike was a member of Morrison United Methodist Church and was a member of the Morrison Jaycees for a number of years. He loved golfing, fishing, hunting, four-wheeling, skiing, vacationing, and spending time with his family at Mogasheen, WI. Mike was a drummer in Mourning Rain, a popular local band in the late 60s and early 70s. Ten years ago, after a 40-year hiatus, the band regrouped for a reunion concert. He found plenty of free time to enjoy his many hobbies, but above all, he enjoyed spending his time with family telling jokes, sharing his long stories, and watching his grandchildren play sports.
