smallcemeteryflags vetstonesAnnual Memorial Day activities in Morrison, IL, begin with the traditional Parade on Monday, May 26, 2014, at 10:30 a.m.  The parade originates at N. Madison and E. Main Streets.

Veterans of any age are invited to ride up the hill on the hayrack provided by Dave Damhoff.  Meet at the parade site by 10:15.

At 11:00 services begin in the Veterans Memorial/Pavilion in Grove Hill Cemetery, on N. High Street.  Pastor Polly (Joseph) Klimson of Fenton, IL, United Methodist Church, will deliver the invocation.

Andrea Allen is featured speaker.  She is married to Morrison High School graduate Michael Allen, a Navy SEAL.  She will address the “other side” of being a military family and how non-service members serve.

Air Force Reserve Major Amy Johannsen will lay the commemorative wreath.

Members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will offer the traditional rifle salute.

MHS instructors David Bean and Meagan Zahora have prepared band and choral music, respectively, for the occasion.  This includes the poignant “Taps” to end the ceremony.

As part of Memorial Day, the public is invited to an Open House at the American Legion Post #328 Hall, 306 E. Main Street, between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.  Members of the VFW meet there, also.
