The Department of Fun built a multi-faceted Memorial Day Block Party, for Monday, May 30, 2022, from noon to 4:00 p.m. It was in the E. 300 block of Main Street, from N. Madison Street to Clinton Street, Morrison, IL. DOF Committee members include: Amanda Cook, Brandy Darby, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Faith Rumfelt, Leann Schaefer, Christina Wetzel, Brad Yaklich, and Elizabeth Yaklich.
They included fun for families, including a bags tournament; bounce houses; a giveaway, raffle, and games; a carnival; face painting. Morrison siblings Haylie, 8, left, and Amiah Schipper, 7, shared their face art.
Kevin Schisler grilled lots of Sullivan’s hot dogs for the Chamber meal; Tiffany Tipton, right, assisted. A sandwich, chips, and drink was $5. Proceeds will benefit the Chamber of Commerce.
Also starting at noon was the American Legion Post 328 Ribbon Cutting and Open House, at 306 E. Main Street. They offered a free meal and tours of their newly-remodeled interior.
Adults entered the Bags Tournament, bought raffle tickets, and visited at shaded picnic tables.
Children decorated the sidewalk with chalk; blew bubbles; tried to toss rings onto pegs and rolls of toilet tissue into a boxed toilet. The latter two games were borrowed from the MHS Post Prom Committee.
Todd Kullerstrand, left, farms north of Lyndon, IL, and cuts hair in Erie, IL. He always has been involved with music and singing. He plays guitar at Morrison United Methodist Church with friend William Patton, right, of Morrison. They offered recorded music to the successful, family, Memorial Day Block Party.
Chamber Executive Director Faith Rumfelt and fiancé Marc Fehervari sold raffle tickets. Mike Mills of Morrison tried his luck.
