The annual Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at Grove Hill Cemetery on High Street, in Morrison, IL, on Monday, May 30, 2022. All citizens are invited to join in this Memorial Day remembrance, to honor those who sacrificed for our freedom.
Parade line up begins at 10:00 a.m., with a start time of 10:30. Entries should line up on E. Main Street at N. Madison Street.
Veterans are welcome to ride in the parade to Grove Hill Cemetery atop a hayrack, provided each year by Dave Damhoff. The Patriot Guard, Horseback riders, and Shriners Wheel Horse brigade will participate.
Services will be at the Veterans Memorial and Pavilion starting at approximately 11:00, allowing time for everyone to travel from the parade route. Consider bringing a chair. The Invocation and Benediction will be given by Father Slawomir Zimodro from St. Mary Catholic Church in Morrison. This year’s speaker is James Prombo. Mark Yarbrough installs the sound system.
Showcasing the Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 25, 2020, was this majestic, 30′ by 50′ banner.
During the Service, 350 new United States flags will be dedicated. The majority of them are displayed through Tuesday, May 31, on the Avenue of Flags–U. S. Highway 30 and IL Route 78. They represent our continued support of all service personnel and their families.
Following the program (at noon), Morrison Chamber of Commerce will host a Ribbon Cutting ceremony at American Legion Post 328, 306 E. Main Street. Legion members will serve a complimentary, pork chop lunch and show their newly-renovated building.
The Lions Club will have a table where Donors may pick up a Commemorative booklet, listing names of flag fund donors, veterans, and honorees.
