Melton New City Administrator

The monthly meeting of the Morrison City Council convened on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, with the City Administrator seat occupied by newly-hired Brian Melton. Melton recently retired as the Chief of Police of Morrison, IL, and eagerly anticipates serving the community in a differently defined level of authority.

The unanimous approval of the Consent Agenda put the following actions into force:
a) recognition of the proclamation stating October in Morrison as Domestic Violence Awareness Month
b) closure of 100 and 200 blocks of N. Genesee Street, to be used for activities related to the Chamber of Commerce Fall Pop Up/Farmers Market on Saturday, October 20, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m.)
c) street closures to host the Halloween Parade on Saturday, October 29, from noon to 3:00 p.m.)
d) closure of Main Street on Saturday, December 3, to accommodate the activities associated with the Christmas Walk, from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m.

Action Items receiving unanimous approval included:
a) approval of Sports Complex Softball improvements by Davis Landscaping estimated at $8000
b) re-zoning of property located at 107 Sawyer Road from Commercial to Residential
c) approval the Department of Fun request to utilize Kelly Park beyond the 10:00 p.m. curfew, for showing free movies and hosting a Halloween-themed Family Movie Night
d) approval of a resolution authorizing the Illinois Municipal League to collect the 2% Foreign Fire Insurance License Fee for the City of Morrison and the Fire Department
e) acceptance of the resignation of Police Chief Brian Melton
f) approval of the employment agreement details of the contract for the Morrison City Administrator position being offered to Brian Melton.

Prior to closing, Mayor pro-tem Mick Welding announced that a special benefit will be held on Saturday, October 22, for Mark Schuler, at the former Schuler Motors Dealership, 727 W. Lincolnway, Morrison. The hour are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Schuler was recently seriously injured in a scooter accident in rural Morrison.

The next meeting of the Morrison City Council will be in the Community Room in Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, on Monday, October 24, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
