May 21 Morrison Farmers’ Market

Posted by

Opening Day of the Morrison Farmers’ Market was Saturday, May 21, 2016, from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m.  The Farmers’ Market is behind Whiteside County Court Services, 204 E. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL.

Featured here are first-time vendors.  Look for them on your future trips to “The Best Little Farmers’ Market in Northern Illinois.”

Visitors were offered a free market bag courtesy of Farmers National Bank, 1100 E. Lincolnway, Morrison.  Doug Vanderlaan and Glenda Deter distributed the gift.  Angel, a cat owned by the Sipes family next door, crept into the gathering.

Michelle Harmon of Morrison originally lived in The Golden State.  Her father grew up here, she said.  She visited in the summers, met her husband, and never returned to California.  Harmon sold all-natural rhubarb for $2 a bundle and included her favorite recipe for Rhubarb Pudding Cake.  She is holding fresh lemon balm.  Harmon emailed the Editor links to uses of this plant. The all-natural, homemade dog treats cost $0.50 a bag.  “Barkin Bites” include pumpkin puree, whole wheat flour, old-fashioned oats, egg, and home-raised bacon.  That sounds good!  They must be kept refrigerated.  Later she will bring green beans, sweet corn, zucchini, melons, squash, pumpkins, and ornamental corn to the market.

Mike Smithee, a Sales Professional at Kunes Country Auto Group of Morrison, showcased this 2016 Chevrolet Camaro.  You can see it on the lot at 627 E. Lincolnway, Morrison, but he will bring it back; Kunes Country will attend the Farmers’ Market each week.  The “product” for sale was the amazing Xzilon Ultimate Appearance Protection, a molecular adhesion process, that covered the vehicle inside and out.  Xzilon takes five hours to hand apply and is warranted for five years.  The coating prevents rock chips; rips/tears on the interior; lights from aging/yellowing; window cracks; small dents; staining from tree sap, bird droppings, acid rain; water spots.  A black X across the hood was spray-painted by Kunes staff.  It easily was rubbed away and does not penetrate the protective coating.  This protective coating sells for $1299.

Morrison Historical Society members promoted an exciting acquisition and endeavor:  the gift of Annan Mill.  Native Morrisonian Brent Sikkema deeded the 1858 mill to MHS in December 2016.
