May 12 Sheriff’s Office Accident Report

At 11:58 a.m., on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, there was a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Moline Road and Illinois Route 78, in rural Whiteside County.  Twenty-year-old Bobbie Joe Merrill of Erie, IL, was westbound on Moline Road and 26-year-old Samantha Luett of Clinton, IA, was southbound.  She was stopped at the intersection of IL Rt 78 and Moline Road, when Luett proceeded eastbound and failed to yield.  The two passenger vehicles collided, and Luett’s vehicle came to a final rest in the south ditch on its roof.  Whiteside County Deputies arrived on scene with Erie, Lyndon, and Prophetstown Fire Departments.  MedForce Helicopter was requested, landed on scene, and transported Luett to Rockford, IL, due to her injuries.  Merrill was transported to CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL.  Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Illinois State Police, Prophetstown Police Department, Erie EMS and Fire, and Prophetstown and Lyndon Fire Departments.  Citation(s) are pending further investigation.
