Thursday, March 19, 2015, was not a typical day for volunteers at Morrison Friends Food Pantry (MFFP), in Morrison United Methodist Church, 200 W. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL. Pantry hours are Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.
As the time for dispensing weekly food and cleaning/grooming supplies drew to a close, Martina Maxfield, Morrison, arrived to present a donation from her two businesses: “Yoga with Martina” class registrations and “Liveda” homemade natural body care products. See her line at Traci Heusinkveld’s Morrison Specialty Shop, 123 W. Main Street, Morrison.
“It’s a basic need. When we’re fed, we can function better,” she explained. “That’s one way I can give back to the Community.”
Maxfield is seated, left, with MFFP Director Kaywyn Beswick, who received the $500 check. Eleven volunteers shared the moment.
Over 23 decorated, cloth, shopping bags were recently donated for those who use the food pantry. Morrison United Methodist and First Presbyterian Churches hold combined youth class, for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. The “Kids for Christ” not only beautified the bags, they donated enough items to fill ten of them.
