Mary Jo Gooley, 73, of Morrison, IL, died Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling, IL.
Mary Jo was born June 9, 1950, in Morrison, to Harry and Mary Josephine (Sharer) Schipper. She was educated in the Garden Plain grade schools and was a 1968 graduate of Fulton High School. She then graduated from Clinton Community College in 1996, while raising four children. Mary Jo married Kenneth R. Gooley on May 20, 1972, in Garden Plain, IL. She was employed by Fidelity in Fulton, IL, General Electric, Volkmann’s Furniture, and Smith Bank in Morrison, 1st National Bank in Sterling, IL, and Albany United Methodist Church, where she became involved with the youth group and education. She was a member of Morrison United Methodist Church, where she helped with Youth Education (Sunday School) and other church committees. She was active in Girl Scouts in Albany, IL, Garden Plain, and later in Morrison. Mary Jo loved traveling with her husband, Ken. A few of her favorite trips included family vacations to Tennessee and Michigan, Disney World for their 50th Wedding Anniversary, the Scout Jamboree in Baraboo, WI, Australia, and Fiji. She also enjoyed going on various bus trips, fishing trips to Northern Wisconsin, and cruising to the Caribbean, Panama, and Alaska.
Survivors include her husband, Ken; daughters, Nicole Lukehart of Erie, IL, and MaKaylin Gooley of Milo, IA; sons, Ryan (Margaret) Gooley of Brownsburg, IN, and Ben Gooley of Morrison; three grandchildren, Chloee and Averee Lukehart and Alivia Lowe; brothers, Richard (Linda) Schipper and Phil (Kathy) Schipper both of Fulton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Morrison United Methodist Church, with Pastor Sun-Ah Kang, Pastor of Morrison United Methodist Church officiating.
A Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL.
Memorials have been established to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Morrison United Methodist Church.
