Marlys L. Aspel, 93, of Darien, IL, died Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Resthave Care and Rehabilitation in Morrison, IL.
Marlys was born August 16, 1929, in Parkston, SD, to Edward J. and Ida (Schuler) Wuertzer. She was educated in the Parkston Grade Schools and played the coronet in high school, before graduation from Parkston High School. On January 23, 1948, she married Thomas J. Parish, Sr. in Parkston. She later married James A. Aspel on July 26, 1975, in Westmont, IL. In her younger years, Marlys worked as a waitress in South Dakota. She then worked at Marshall Field’s Department Store in Oakbrook, IL, for 50 years. Marlys was involved in many church groups and enjoyed traveling with her friends and family. She was a beautiful seamstress, and in her free time, she enjoyed tending to her garden.
Marlys is survived by her daughter, Linda Bolyard of Kenosha, WI; sons, Thomas (Janice) Parish, Jr., of Chadwick, IL, and Robert “Bob” (Anica) Parish of San Jose, CA; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Theresa Parish of Downers Grove, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas Parish, Sr., and James Aspel; son, William “Bill” Parish; son-in-law, Amel Bolyard; brother, Wilmer Wuertzer; step-brother, Alton Wuertzer; step-sisters, Martha Tiede, Ida Leischner, and Sadie Schmidt.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
A memorial has been established to Resthave Care and Rehabilitation for the exceptional compassion and caring they provided.
