Mark Hamstra, 64, of Sterling, IL, died Monday, January 16, 2023, at Allure of Sterling.
Mark was born September 9, 1958, in Morrison, IL, to Ralph and Rena (Hook) Hamstra. He attended local area schools. Mark worked at Self-Help Enterprises in Sterling for 45 years. He was a baptized member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison. After his parents’ passing, Mark’s cousin Carolyn Vandermyde and her husband, Bob, took on the role as primary caretakers. They provided him with anything he needed. Mark was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears Fan. He loved going out to eat and going for car rides.
Survivors include his caretaker, Bob Vandermyde, and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and cousin, Carolyn Vandermyde.
Funeral services for Mark will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 22, 2023, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with Ken Renkes officiating.
There will be no Visitation.
Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial to Self-Help Enterprises has been established.
