Marjorie Mae Rhoads (1915 – 2016)

marjorie rhoadsMarjorie Mae Rhoads, 101, of Fenton, IL, died Sunday, September 25, 2016, at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton, IA.

Marjorie was born June 2, 1915, in Aurora, IL, to Edwin D. and Mary (Engelkens) Glazier.  At the age of three, she and her family moved to the family farm north of Fenton, where she spent her childhood.  She was educated in the Bunker Hill Grade School in rural Morrison, IL, and attended Morrison High School.  On December 24, 1936, she married Kenneth W. Jensen in Wyoming, IL.  After their marriage, they farmed in several areas in the Fenton and Morrison area.   He died November 27, 1955.  She later married Roger E. Rhoads on December 12, 1961, in Morrison.  Marjorie was employed at General Electric Co., Paddock Cleaners, and Volckman’s Furniture in Morrison.  Later she was employed with Deluxe and Potter’s Cleaners in Dixon, IL.  Marjorie was a life-long member of the Fenton United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school.  She, along with her husband Roger, enjoyed traveling from coast to coast and adding to her doll collection.  She also enjoyed her flower garden and making quilts.  Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Roger; one daughter, Judith (Bill) Schaller of Fenton; two sons, Larry (Beverly) Jensen of Morrison and Don (Julie) Jensen of Fulton, IL; seven grandchildren, Mary (Brian) Oostenryk, Randy (Rita Kaufman) Schaller, Cathy (Dan) Hawkins, Dawn (Darin) Housenga, Chris (Dawn Hinrichs) Jensen, Donna (Dan) Rus, Ashley Walters; 13 great-grandchildren, Brian Oostenryk, Meredith Oostenryk, Mitchell Schaller, Jordan Schaller, Caitlyn Hawkins, Nathan Hawkins, Seth House, Jennifer Jensen, Justin Jensen, Jessica Jensen, Krista Machael, Megan Hagge, Shelby Rus; two great-great-grandchildren, Carter Hagge and Claire Hagge ; one sister, Lillian Unger of Morrison.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth; one great-grandson, Jobe House; one brother, George E. Glazier; three sisters, Hazel “Marie” Conner, Catherine “Irene” Bush, and Reva Armstrong.

FUNERAL SERVICE:  10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 1, 2016, at Fenton United Methodist Church in Fenton, IL

OFFICIATING:  Rev. Jan Shaulis, Pastor of Fenton United Methodist Church

VISITATION:  4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2016, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Morrison, IL

INTERMENT:  Fenton Cemetery, Fenton, IL

A memorial to Fenton United Methodist Church Sunday School has been established.
